Our Mid-August Ride – Lazy Days, Thunderstorms & Ribeye

Mid-August is that time when everyone just wants to slow down. The Italians call it Ferro Agosto—a time to take a break, relax, and do as little as possible. And honestly, that’s exactly what many of our La Valette members were doing. Some were away on holiday, some out at sea, others enjoying a BBQ with friends. So, not many could join our usual weekend sunset ride.

But that didn’t stop a small group of us—just twelve riders—from showing up. Even though the island got hit with heavy rain and thunderstorms earlier in the day, we still met at our usual spot, The Kettles in Mrieħel, ready to ride.

Our road captain, Kevin Caruana, led the way. We rode up north to Għajn Tuffieħa, passed through St. Paul’s Bay, and then headed all the way down to the south coast. We stopped at Summer Nights in Marsascala, a place we all love. Since we were a smaller group, we didn’t bother booking ahead—and luckily, we found plenty of space to sit, relax, and enjoy some cold drinks. I went for the ribeye steak, and it was just what I needed to end the day.

Being fewer than usual actually made the evening feel more personal. We got to chat with everyone, laugh, and talk about our upcoming trip to Calabria in September. It was nice to slow down and enjoy each other’s company.

Before heading home, we made one last stop—for ice cream, of course. It’s becoming our little summer tradition, and honestly, it’s the perfect way to wrap up a ride.

Summer 2025 is in full swing, and even though many are taking time off, our La Valette group is still hitting the road every week. Now we’re getting ready for our August event—Hogs by the Pool. It’s going to be a fun way to celebrate summer together and make more great memories.
